Variety Show Auditions | 10/10 & 10/11

Come one. Come all! The theme for the 2018 Marshall & Jefferson Variety Show is CIRCUS. The Variety Show is a showcase of short acts including musical performances, comedy, juggling, magic, dance, & acrobatics introduced by emcees.

The Variety Show starts with an ensemble act that is choreographed and rehearsed at Jefferson Elementary by parent volunteers. The emcees introduce the acts reading from a script that is developed by a parent volunteer. The short acts that make up the rest of the show are created and rehearsed by students with the help of an Act Coach (typically a parent or guardian) outside of the school. Each act must audition on the audition date(s).

All acts that audition will be in the show. There is no audition for the ensemble and emcees; see details below.

Every performer must submit a registration form by September 30.

Ensemble Details

For 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students who don’t have an act or who want more stage time.

• Jefferson students only
• No audition needed
• Must submit a registration form by September 30th.
• You will perform the opening act of the show.
• NEW THIS YEAR! Rehearsals are every Friday night at 6:30-7:30pm in the Jefferson Elementary Gymnasium starting 10/12. No rehearsal 11/9 & 11/23..
• Must be at all rehearsals. Must be an active participant at all rehearsals.
• Performer & Parent/Guardian will need to sign a rehearsal contract prior to first rehearsal.

Emcee Details

For 5th grade students who want to introduce the acts during the show.

• 5th grade students only
• You will introduce the acts in the show.
• Must submit a registration form by September 30th.
• There will be 1-2 rehearsals closer to the show.

Jefferson Act Guidelines

• Solos: 1 minute time limit
• Duets: 1.5 minute time limit
• Groups (3+ students): 2 minute time limit
• No lip syncing

Act Audition Details

• Every performer in every act must submit a registration form by September 30th.
• You must audition to be in the show.
• All who audition will be in the show.
• Audition acts do not need to be perfect at audition time.
• After the registration deadline we will email you with audition sign ups and specifics.
• If you are singing, find the instrumental version of your song. We only have standing microphones, please limit your choreography to standing or sitting gestures.

Act Callbacks Details

• Acts should be completely developed by callbacks.
• Music should be cut to specified time limit and submitted.
• Act name must be submitted.

Final dress rehearsals are mandatory.

• These rehearsals will be on the stage with lights and music.
• The show is broken up into 2 Acts. Act 1 will rehearse on the Wednesday, Act 2 on the Thursday, and all performers on the Friday before the show.
