Jefferson PTA Welcomes William Hannis

Dear Jefferson School Parents and Guardians,

My name is William Hannis and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new assistant principal of Jefferson Elementary School. I am honored to have been selected to join the South Orange-Maplewood School District and help uphold the mission of Jefferson Elementary School.

Before coming to South Orange- Maplewood, my professional career was entirely within the Summit School District. I held the position of fourth grade teacher for the last thirteen years and was an assistant baseball coach for Summit High School. Additionally, I wrote a handful of grants that began a S.T.E.A.M and robotics initiative, which led a push using Ozobots and other makerspace projects. I was the lead teacher for grades 3, 4, and 5 in Reading and Writing, where I helped staff implement the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Workshop programs. I was also a member of the Professional Learning Committee, which helped plan professional development for staff and connect our school community with the greater Summit community.

Along with Principal Hutchinson and our dedicated school staff, I will work hard to build strong relationships and provide exciting and challenging opportunities for all students. It is my goal that we will all work together to provide your child an opportunity to learn in a safe learning environment while developing the essential skills and knowledge to become independent life-long learners, ethical citizens, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and collaborative workers.

Once again, I am excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader to Jefferson Elementary School and work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success. I look forward to getting to know you and your children.
