School & HOME communication

The Bolden PTA believes that communication is the key to staying involved and engaged with our kids’ learning. We know that the preference for how information is received varies for every family, so we strive to use a variety of media channels to communicate. In an effort to go green, as well as speed up communication, with the school community, we will focus on electronic communication through our website and email when necessary. But we still believe that it’s necessary to communicate some information, such as permission slips and certain event announcements, through flyers in your child’s backpack.

This page explains how we use our website, email weekly newsletter, backpack flyer, as well as the other communication tools like social media to help you get the information you need.

Our Website

Most of the Bolden PTA website is open to the community and the public at large. This is the primary place where we share information about upcoming events and school updates.

Please note that you must register on our site to get access to all the available information.

Additionally, by joining the PTA, you will have access to items such as the online student directory, our school store, volunteer forms, and much more. You will also be added to  Bobcat News, Delia Bolden School's weekly email newsletter. To register, fill out the online form. You can always opt-out at any time if you change your mind.

Bobcat News, Bolden School's Weekly Email Newsletter

The PTA emails Bobcat News, our weekly newsletter to all families and staff who have registered as members of our school community on our website. The newsletter generally comes out on Sunday with information about all school-related activities in weeks to come. In order to be added to Bobcat News emails, be sure to register on our PTA website. You can opt-out of receiving email by using the unsubscribe link in any email.

SchoolMessenger is the official system that SOMSD and Bolden School use to send emails to the entire parent community. Our principal, assistant principal, superintendent, and other administrative staff members may also use this system to send emails to the school community. All parents with students registered with SOMSD are automatically included in this email list.

Bolden Facebook Page

We share a community Delia Bolden PTA (closed group). The Facebook Group is private and managed by PTA members. The Delia Bolden PTA Facebook group is a place where members of the community can connect, communicate, and discuss.

Backpack Notices

Notices from the Principal, teachers and the PTA oftentimes come home in student backpacks. Parents could also correspond with teachers in the same way by including a note addressed to the teacher and placing it in their child’s dedicated homework folder in their backpack. However, should you wish to communicate more directly with your child’s teacher, feel free to call or email them.

General PTA Meetings

At least three times each year, the PTA holds general meetings that are open to the entire school community. These in-person meetings provide status updates about the school and solicit opinions, viewpoints, and votes of the general membership. Each meeting also offers an engaging and interactive component and centers around a focus area of our curriculum; past meetings have included small-group workshops about literacy, hands-on arts integration activities, and a summer slide open house. For the dates, times, and topics of this year’s scheduled meetings, please see the school year calendar.

Curriculum Nights

In the fall, the school schedules evening presentations about each grade’s curriculum, known as Back To School Night. Teachers meet with families to outline expectations and talk about methods and materials that will be used during the year. We encourage all parents to attend Back To School Night to get a better understanding of what your child will be learning. Check the events calendar to find out when Back to School Night is for this school year.

Conferences and Appointments

Teacher conferences are generally scheduled in fall and spring. At these conferences, parents/guardians discuss their child’s academic progress with the teacher. If there are issues that require immediate attention, families do not need to wait for the scheduled conferences; rather, they should make an appointment directly with their child’s teacher.
